Journal: Tuesday, 12/02/08

►  Closed the vented lid of Jo's kiln so it can finish firing. Outside temperature holding at 29ºF/-1ºC @ 2 AM, clear sky, light south wind.

►  A fairly nice day going here in the Ozarks, though the south wind is building. 45ºF/7ºC @ 11 AM.

►  Jo and I are going to try and get a little van loading done today since the weather forecast for tomorrow is horrible. (47ºF/8ºC and sunny @ noon)

►  Getting a partial load of pots into the van today proved to be a pipe dream. Jo doesn't have enough pots packed to bother loading. So, we will load the van tomorrow. If it's raining, we will load the van. If it's snowing, we will load the van. (Clear, gusty south wind and 45ºF/7ºC @ 5 PM)

►  Need to clean out our wood stove so I can get a fire going again.  (Clear, strong and gusty south wind  and 44ºF/6ºC @ 8 PM)

►  Jo is taking cooked chicken off the bone so she can make King Ranch Chicken.  The dogs wanna help.

►  South wind velocity approaching shingle-ripping. Clear and 44ºF/6ºC @ midnight.

Journal: Thursday, 9/04/08

Our garlic chives is blooming and attracting a lot of butterflies and other pollinators -- at least it was before all our recent rain start.  I haven't been out in the garden to check since.
.
Midnight:  We still have a 90% chance of rain tonight and a 70% chance on Thursday, but little rain has fallen over the past several hours.  There's hope that an ark may not be necessary.

Only another .6" rain overnight (8.8" total) and I think most of that fell in the very early morning hours.  Jo and the dogs were able to take their walk up the road this morning.  Though NOAA says our chance of measurable precipitation is still 60%, the sun is currently making a feable attempt to break through the clouds.  (70º @ 10 AM)

The sun's attempt at shining was a failure.  Light drizzle falling.  (72º @ Noon)

Walked up the road to the gate and back in a light drizzle.  Our road out is still in pretty good shape considering all the rain that's fallen in the post 36 or so hours.  The rain was steady, but never fell hard and heavy.  The downpours are what washes out the road, especially when the runoff breaches a water cutout in the road. (68º @ 5 PM)

Starting to chill down a little bit this evening with a breezy north wind blowing.  (68º @ 7 PM)

Midnight:  No significant additional rainfall today, just drizzle.  Skies remain overcast.  Tomorrow is forecast to begin foggy and then slowly clear.  Knowing our luck, the sun will probably finally break through the clouds around sunset.

Journal: Friday, 8/22/2008

Midnight:  Weather conditions about the same:  Mostly cloudy to light rain falling off and on.

2:00 AM:  One of those little rain showers just came through.

5:00 AM:  How did it get to be this late already.  Way past time for going to bed.

10:00:  Mostly cloudy and hazy this morning.  It looks as if the weather is going to try for a few days of muggy.  79º

Out in the garden the garlic chives are beginning to bloom.

Noon:  Mugginess "progressed" to actual rain.  Could hear thunder in the distance.  I had a look at the NOAA radar.  One little isolated thunderstorm was over us.  There was no line of storms on the way.  I decided that I didn't need to bother unplugging the computer.  As soon as I made that decision a simultanious flash of lightning and crash of thunder occured -- very close.  I revised my decision and quickly hibernated and unplugged the computer.  Of course, that proved to be the one and only flash of lightning nearby.

2:00 PM:  Rain over.  .5" out of that little thundershower.  Skies cleared to partly cloudy again.  83º

Believe it or not, there are wire tunnels under these peas.  Obviously, the tunnels are no good for keeping the peas confined.  The Souther Peas are growing well, but have yet to bloom.

4:00 PM:  Our routine walk up to the gate.

6:00 PM:  I thought I might get to do some mowing today, but after that mid-day shower, the grass was just too wet.

The wild plums are getting very close to being ripe.  The pulp is sweet and flavorful, but the skin will still cause your mouth to pucker.

Weather Summary:  85/73 ... .5" rain ... mostly cloudy to occasionally partly cloudy or overcast... mid-day shower ... very muggy.
