Ice Storm: Icicles On Icicles

The slower freezing mist and drizzle that fell during the morning of 01/27 coated limbs and stems with a layer of ice.  The heavier freezing rain that fell during the PM ran off the stems and created icicles which changed direction as the limbs sagged more and more.  The icicles ended up looking like tusks.  (Photo taken:  Tuesday, January 27, 2009, 12:19:10 PM)

(Note: As time and a slow dialup connection allow, I will be editing and uploading ice storm photos to a Picasa online album and will eventually post most of them on this blog. If you want to check out the Picasa album from time to time, it is here.)

Ice Storm: Bowed Tree In Yard

Freezing rain is still falling and this tree near the northwest corner of our house is still collecting ice. The large upper limb that's very bowed in this photo eventually snapped. (Photo taken Tuesday, January 27, 2009, 12:18:02 PM)

Feeding the Birds

Jo's replacing the feeder she filled with a pseudo-suet mixture (cornmeal, peanut butter, lard). A light snow is falling while the temperature hovers right at the freezing mark. No accumulation is forecast.

(I just checked our forecast again.  Now NOAA says we could get an inch of snow today and another half inch this evening.  We're still not likely to get snowed in.)
