Odd Shots Monday: Scarecrow

Meet Mr. Oxymoron, a camouflaged scarecrow.

(Evidently, the deer were not impressed. A few days after erecting this scarecrow decked out in camouflaged garb, the gardener installed an electric fence.)

Odd Shots Monday: Violinist

At a symphony concert it's not unusual to see a violinist wearing tails, but a violinist with a tail is a little different.

(When I started to photograph this fiddle player, she told me that no photos of her were allowed -- unless I agreed to show her picture to all my friends. I have now upheld my end of the bargain.)

Sharp Curve

Another sharp curve on the way into town. Judging from the skid marks, it looks as if a truck was having problems getting slowed down. This curve can be especially tricky in the winter because there is a bridge right in the middle of it. Sometimes that bridge is icy even when the roadway isn't.

Camera Critters: Bucket and Rusty

Bucket and Rusty

Taken by Jo after our last significant snowfall in early March. Jo took Bucket (Boo-kay) and Rusty for a walk up the road while I remained at home trying to finish up some project before it got dark. Jo said she had no idea why both dogs were staring up the road so intently. Perhaps they were anticipating an SPCA rescue party.

Shortly after this photo was taken, Jo put Rusty back on his leash because he was expressing too much interest in something going on out in the woods. A little while after that, Jo decided to take more photos. She had Russ sit, but left Bucket free to roam. Boo quickly got bored with the photo session. (She usually does.) When Jo looked up from the camera, not only was Bucket already heading home, she'd picked up Rusty's leash and was leading him back to the house as well.

Heading Off The Mountain

Driving down off the mountain.

(Trip into town ... Friday ... 6/13/08)

Big, white fluffy clouds were above us for most of the day. Thunderstorms moved in around 7 PM. Lots of flashing and booming going on for a while. Telephone went out, but came back into service a few hours later. Storms had cleared our area by midnight. They became even more intense to our south. NOAA issued flash flood warnings for the counties down around Conway. We received 1.5 inches of rain total. A NOAA weather spotter in the Conway area reported 1.5 inches in 15 minutes.

Gravel Meets The Blacktop

Where the county gravel road meets the state's two-lane blacktop.

Had to make a trip into town (16 miles) and stock up on supplies. Unless we have special business of some sort to attend to, we go into town every week and a half or so. Neither Jo nor I likes to make the trip, so we take turns. Both of us made the trip today because we needed to take the dogs in for their annual vaccinations.

Jo and I kept our eyes on the sky as we set up for Art in the Park in Columbia, MO. We drove through rain getting to the show and there were storms to our north and south, but we lucked out. It didn't rain -- not Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
